Harwood community day postponed

14 November 2019

The community day at the new bridge over the Clarence River at Harwood has been postponed due to bushfires.

Local Federal and State Nationals MPs Kevin Hogan and Chris Gulaptis said the community day originally planned for this Sunday, 17 November would now take place on Sunday, 1 December.

“We’ve made the decision to support our local communities as many continue to face challenging times, while some start the process of recovering after the fires,” the MPs said.

“It is important we also make sure resources are available to fight bushfires in local areas and minimise traffic on local roads; allowing better access for emergency vehicles and improving the ability to undertake evacuations if required.

“We appreciate there is a very high level of interest in the community day and apologise to anyone who is inconvenienced by the date change.

“Conditions will continue to be monitored and we will keep the community informed if there are any further changes.”

People will need to re-register their interest in the event and will be able to do so early next week. The MPs said they will keep the community informed as to how to register.

The Australian and NSW governments have joint funded the $4.95 billion Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade on an 80:20 basis.
