Avoid end of school holiday traffic at Sydney Airport this weekend
Friday 15 July 2016
Roads in and around Sydney Airport are expected to be busy this weekend as thousands of families return home from holidays for the start of the third school term.
“My advice to travellers and motorists is to consider alternative travel arrangements when getting to and from the airport this weekend,” Minister for Roads Duncan Gay said.
“I urge family and friends planning to drop off or pick up passengers to consider additional travel time or an alternative meeting spot like Central Station to avoid heavy delays.
“If you don’t need to drive or be driven – don’t. Jump on the train instead.”
Regular train services and taxis will be available.
Saturday and Sunday morning between 6.30am and 9.30am is expected to be particularly busy at the International Terminal and similarly on Sunday evening at the Domestic Terminal.
The NSW Government and Sydney Airport are working as quickly as possible to introduce solutions to help relieve congestion in and around the airport. Measures such as the new permanent clearway on Marsh Street and traffic phasing in the area are making a positive difference.
The NSW Police motorcycle response team is continuing to patrol the precinct and prevent motorists queuing across intersections and holding up traffic.
Work on major infrastructure projects in the area is also progressing as part of a $500 million investment by the NSW Government and Sydney Airport.
