Camp Street Bridge already ahead of schedule
26 July 2019
Plans for the new Camp Street Bridge in Forbes are powering ahead, with construction of the $12.8 million project to commence ahead of schedule.Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the Nationals in Government were getting on with the job of building infrastructure across regional NSW.
“We know how important infrastructure projects are for local communities, which is why I’ve made sure this project is able to start as soon as possible,” Mr Toole said.
“The Camp Street Bridge – built in 1927 – has served the community and visitors to the area for nearly 100 years, but it is time for an upgrade.
“Following a competitive tender process, Abergeldie Contractors Ptd Ltd was selected to build the bridge and is expected to start work by the end of August.
“The project involves building a new, wider bridge across Lake Forbes with wider lanes and pedestrian and cycle paths to provide a safer crossing.
“The design also includes landscaping suitable to the lakeside environment and the lamp posts from the existing bridge will be incorporated in the design to complement the town's heritage aesthetics.”
The community is invited to attend a drop in session where they will be able to speak with the project team and find out more information about the bridge construction at the following locations:
- Saturday August 10 between 8am and 12.30pm at the Rotary Markets, Lions Park Forbes and between 1.30pm and 4pm outside Bernardi’s Supermarket on Lachlan Street
- Thursday August 15 between 4pm and 8pm outside Bernardi’s Supermarket on Lachlan Street
Work will start on Monday 26 August 2019 and is expected to be completed by August 2020, weather permitting.
