Evans River: Exclusive use for swim event
7 June 2012
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence for the safe staging of a swimming race on the Evans River this Sunday.
RMS Maritime Regional Manager North Coast James Green said boaters should keep clear of the river between the road bridge in Elm Street north easterly for about one kilometre to the Clarrie Kirkland Reserve in Park Street, Evans Head from 8am to 10am.
“This area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of an Evans Head Casino Surf Lifesaving Club swim,” Mr Green said.
“For safety reasons, skippers should avoid this area as it will be restricted for the event and patrolled by control vessels.”
Mr Green said a contingency plan, in the event of poor weather, would see swim take place on the enclosed waters of Evans River.
He said vessels would not be permitted to enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by a Boating Safety Officer or a Police Officer.
