Safety improvements on Pacific Highway at Sandgate

7 November 2012

A Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) spokesperson said upgrade work on the Pacific Highway at Sandgate has started.

“The Federal Government provided $300,000 under the Blackspot Funding program to improve safety in response to the crash history at this location,” the spokesperson said.

“In the five years to 30 June 2010 there were 25 crashes, including nine crashes which resulted in injury.

“The project involves installing 690 metres of median wire rope safety barrier from 10 metres to 700 metres north of Wallsend Road.

“The project aims to improve safety by preventing head on crashes,” the spokesperson said.

Work is expected to be complete by the Christmas break and no impact on traffic is expected.
