Kempsey bypass community day postponed
22 Feb 2013
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) today announced Sunday’s community event to walk the Kempsey Bypass bridge has been postponed due to severe storm warnings for the region.
“The delay of this exciting event is unfortunate, but with severe weather forecast for the region, we must put the safety of the community first and hold the event at a later date,” Pacific Highway General Manager Bob Higgins said.
“High winds are also predicted which would impact on setting up and safe running of the event.
“The opportunity to walk Australia’s longest bridge to help celebrate the upcoming completion of the Kempsey bypass will now be held on Sunday 10 March.
“This will be an exciting step forward for the Pacific Highway upgrade.
“Those who walk along the new 3.2 kilometre bridge over the Macleay River will have the chance to look more closely at the final stages of building.
“The bypass is still on schedule to be completed before Easter 2013, weather permitting,” Mr Higgins said.
