Heavy vehicle compliance breaches
Heavy vehicle compliance breaches to be investigated
12 February 2014
Claims of compliance breaches will be investigated as part of a targeted heavy vehicle operation at a distribution centre in south west Sydney this morning.
The Roads and Maritime Services and NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol joint heavy vehicle taskforce has been investigating claims of preferential treatment and unsafe work practices among heavy vehicle operators at the centre for several months.
“We are working to determine the accuracy of the claims," Roads and Maritime Director of Safety and Compliance Peter Wells said.
Mr Wells said claims included an operator being provided with preferential treatment which had allegedly led to unsafe practices relating to loading requirements.
“As part of this operation we will look into claims drivers were forced to drive unrealistic distances, breaching work and rest fatigue laws.
“We’ve also had allegations of international drivers operating without the appropriate licences for NSW.”
