Waterfall Way safety review community workshops

Waterfall Way safety review community workshops

15 May 2014

Workshops will be held in Bellingen and Dorrigo to inform the community about the next stage of the Waterfall Way safety review.

Roads and Maritime Services and the Centre for Road Safety are examining the 40 kilometre stretch of road from Tyringham Street at Dorrigo to the junction of the Pacific Highway following community feedback about increased truck movements.

The workshops will provide an opportunity to discuss issues raised during the two week feedback period and also at the Bellingen drop in sessions in March.

"Roads and Maritime understands there is strong community interest in this review and has decided to hold workshops in Bellingen and Dorrigo so both communities can participate," a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.

"Almost 120 submissions were received during the feedback period and some of the issues raised included the condition of the road, truck numbers, speed limits and signs."

The workshops will be an integral part of the review with information provided about crash trends, statistics and vehicle movements as well as helping to identify possible site visits.

“Residents and business owners will have the opportunity to ask the review team questions and provide additional feedback,” the spokesperson said.

The Bellingen workshop will be held on Wednesday 4 June from 6.30pm to 8pm at the Uniting Church on Hyde Street.

The Dorrigo workshop will be on Thursday 5 June from 6.30pm to 8pm at the Dorrigo Hall on Hickory Street.

Community members can register their interest to attend the workshops by calling 131 782 or emailing waterfallway@rms.nsw.gov.au.

The review is expected to be complete by July and its findings will form the basis for a strategy to improve road safety.
