Reminder to have say on Blackadder and Corindi flood mitigation measures

Residents are reminded to have a say on proposed flood mitigation measures for the Blackadder and Cassons creeks floodplain as part of the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade.

Feedback is invited to the measures developed in response to the Corindi River flood assessment report which found Blackadder Creek safety work may impact properties immediately upstream in the vicinity of Cassons Creek.

Roads and Maritime Services has investigated non-structural options such as flood prediction and warning, flood awareness, community readiness and evacuation arrangements.

Roads and Maritime is also investigating lowering about 270 metres of the existing Pacific Highway to the same ground level before the start of work at Blackadder Creek to reduce flood risk along Cassons Creek.

A similar option also involves lowering the same section of highway and another 150 metres at the southern end of the safety work.

Roads and Maritime invites community feedback by Tuesday, 30 September on the options presented in the assessment report to inform a preferred option.

To discuss the assessment report further, please call the project team on the toll free information line on 1800 778 900.

Detailed information is available in the Blackadder Creek safety work, flood mitigation assessment report and it is available on the project website at or by phoning the project information line.
