Tender for tourism activities on the Sydney Harbour Bridge

14 June 2017

After almost two decades the contract for tourism activities on the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be open to tender.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the Sydney Harbour Bridge Tourist Climb Business had been successfully hosting its events on Australia’s most iconic structure for 19 years.

“The current contract is about to expire and we are therefore following appropriate process by opening the tender to gauge interest for future tourism opportunities on the Bridge,” the spokesperson said.

“This tender is an important part of both the State and the country’s tourism and as such is of interest to a large number of stakeholders.

“We are hoping to receive interest from any legitimate tourism businesses with opportunities to expand the reputation of the structure and Sydney as an ideal place to visit.”

The original lease for the BridgeClimb business was for a 20 year period. Roads and Maritime is proceeding with a two-stage open market tender for Expressions of Interest followed by a Request for Proposal for the Sydney Harbour Bridge Tourist Climb Business which also includes the Bridge Museum within the South Eastern Pylon.

The first stage Expressions of Interest has been released and is available on the NSW Government eTendering website.

“The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the most important assets ‘owned’ by the people of New South Wales,” the spokesperson said.

“As custodians of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Roads and Maritime has worked closely with BridgeClimb to ensure a world class attraction. As with all business partnerships, it is important to review the contract to ensure the people of New South Wales are getting the best quality service and value for money from this key asset.

“The internationally renowned attraction will continue to operate throughout the tender period.
“We will keep the community informed as the process progresses and at the completion of the tender,” the spokesperson said.
