Busy Matraville intersection to get road safety upgrade
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson today announced road safety will be improved for pedestrians and motorists with work now complete on a strategic and concept design for proposed improvements to the intersection of Bunnerong Road, Perry Street and Franklin Street at Matraville.
The spokesperson said Roads and Maritime will carry out essential work to improve safety at the busy intersection.
“This is fantastic news for the Matraville community and the detailed design is now in the final stages,” the spokesperson said.
“Work will include the installation of right turning lanes on both approaches to Bunnerong Road. A new green arrow phase will also be added to existing traffic lights, allowing vehicles to turn right without having to negotiate through oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
“Improvements will also include red arrow displays for all pedestrian crossings when activated and new pram ramps surrounding the intersection to improve safety for pedestrians at the busy intersection.”
Work is expected to start next year and the community and stakeholders will be kept informed as plans progress.
