Plan ahead of Memorial Drive closure for essential maintenance
7 April 2018
Work to improve road user safety on Memorial Drive is about to get under way between North Wollongong and Bulli.
The NSW Government is funding the work as part of its $1.5 billion maintenance program which aims to improve the state’s 18,028 kilometre road and bridge network.
“Work will include maintenance of guardrails and vegetation, clearing gutters and drains to improve water runoff and collecting litter,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.
“It may seem relatively simple and minor, but maintenance work is essential to ensure the region’s roads are safe.
“Memorial Drive will be closed to traffic in both directions while work takes place to ensure it is carried out as safely and efficiently as possible.”
Work will be carried out from Sunday 8 to Thursday 12 April between 8pm and 4am, weather permitting.
“Every effort will be taken to reduce the impact of noise to nearby residents, including completing noisier activities before midnight,” the spokesperson said.
“Roads and Maritime is committed to reducing the impact of such work to the community which is why it’s being carried out before the April school holidays.
“Detours for light and heavy vehicles will be in place via the Princes Highway during work hours and road users should plan their journey and allow 10 minutes of extra travel time.”
