Improving pedestrian safety on Dora Street at Morisset
15 May 2018
Pedestrian safety improvements will soon be in place on Dora Street between Doyalson and Station streets at Morisset.
The NSW Government has provided $500,000 as part of the Walking Communities Program to improve pedestrian connections and safety in local communities.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said in the five years to June 2015, there were six recorded crashes in this area with three of these crashes resulting in injury. Two of these crashes also involved a pedestrian crossing the road.
“Lake Macquarie City Council will carry out the work on behalf of Roads and Maritime, which will involve installing a traffic signalled pedestrian crossing,” the spokesperson said.
Work will start on Monday 21 May and is expected to be completed by late June, weather permitting. Work will be carried out between 6:30am and 5.30pm or between 4pm and 2:30am from Sunday to Friday.
To ensure the work zone is safe for motorists and workers, lane closures and a 40 km/h speed limit will be in place while work is carried out.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the direction of signs and traffic control. For the latest traffic updates download the Live Traffic NSW App, visit livetraffic.com or call 132 701.
