Shovels out for work to improve safety at Basin View
21 May 2018
Major road safety improvements are on the way at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Andrews Road at Basin View.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the NSW Government has provided $650,000 for a package of work which will result in safer travel for all road users once complete.
“Work includes widening Andrews Road and building a 130 metre right turn lane from the Princes Highway onto Andrews Road,” the spokesperson said.
“Around 325 metres of guardrail will also be installed along the southbound lanes of the Princes Highway and around 75 metres of guardrail northbound on approach to Andrews Road.
“This package of work will also include improvements to drainage on the northbound side of Andrews Road and a high-friction road surface will be laid.
“The high friction surface will help to make the road less slippery and reduce the risk of crashes at the intersection, particularly in the wet weather.”
Work will be carried out from Monday 21 May to Friday 29 June on weekdays between 7am and 5pm, weather permitting.
“Changed traffic conditions will be in place during work hours to ensure the project is carried out as safely and efficiently as possible,” the spokesperson added.
“The speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/h and one lane will be closed at times when required and motorists are advised to allow an extra five minutes of travel time.”
Roads and Maritime thanks the community in advance for its patience.
