Speed limit change on New South Head Road
6 August 2018
Safety will be improved on a section of New South Head Road this month with the speed limit reduced from 60 km/h to 50km/h between Vaucluse and Rose Bay.
Roads and Maritime Services carried out a review of the speed limit as part of a routine speed zone review in the area.
The existing 60 km/h speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h from 150 metres west of Hopetoun Avenue to 20 metres west of Norwich Road.
The new speed limit will take effect from Monday 13 August and motorists are reminded the 50 km/h speed limit is legally enforceable.
The reduced speed limit will improve safety for motorists and pedestrians, while creating a more consistent driving experience for motorists.
An analysis of the road environment, traffic characteristics as well as historic crash data was what led to the decision to reduce the speed limit.
Signs will be in place on New South Head Road to advise motorists of the changed traffic conditions.
