Work drives forward on road upgrades at Frenchs Forest

10 September 2018

Work is powering on at Frenchs Forest with closures in place from next Friday on Wakehurst Parkway between Warringah Road and Frenchs Forest Road to allow essential work to be carried out as part of the Northern Beaches Hospital road upgrade.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the upgrade is entering the next major stage of work to improve Warringah Road and motorists will need to change the way they travel through Frenchs Forest in the coming months.

“Roads and Maritime is continuing to deliver improvements for the thousands of motorists who travel on this section of the road network each day,” the spokesperson said.

“Crews are continuing to work hard to deliver a new and improved road network which will provide a local access to the new hospital as well as provide motorists with a better travel experience.

“All eastbound traffic on Warringah Road will soon need to move onto upgraded lanes between Forest Way and Wakehurst Parkway to allow work to continue on the Warringah Road underpass.

“Motorists travelling in the Frenchs Forest area will experience heavy traffic conditions in coming months, with the heaviest traffic expected during the morning and afternoon weekday peaks and on Saturdays.

“Work is already being carried out to prepare for this change and some weekend traffic changes are required to allow further work to be carried out safely and efficiently.”

The spokesperson said as part of the work, there will be lane closures on Wakehurst Parkway across three weekends to rebuild the road.

“There will be a number of traffic changes in the Frenchs Forest area from Friday 14 September to allow work to be carried out and motorists should plan ahead for expected traffic delays,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said from 8pm Friday 14 September to 5am Monday 17 September, all southbound lanes of Wakehurst Parkway will be temporarily closed between Frenchs Forest Road and Warringah Road, with detours in place via Frenchs Forest Road, Forest Way, Warringah Road, Allambie Road and Rodborough Road.

The following weekend, all northbound lanes of Wakehurst Parkway will be temporarily closed between Warringah Road and Frenchs Forest Road from 8pm Friday 21 September to 5am Monday 24 September, with motorists detoured via Warringah Road, Allambie Road and Frenchs Forest Road.

Wakehurst Parkway will also be closed in both directions between Warringah Road and Frenchs Forest Road from 8pm Friday 5 October to 5am Monday 8 October. Motorists will be detoured via Warringah Road, Allambie Road, Frenchs Forest Road and Forest Way.

The spokesperson said Roads and Maritime is asking all motorists who travel through Frenchs Forest to plan their trips in advance, consider alternate routes and use real-time traffic apps to help find the best route based on live traffic data.

“Heavy traffic conditions are expected across these three weekends while work is carried out so motorists are reminded to plan ahead,” the spokesperson said.

“Some bus routes will be diverted and have changed stopping arrangements so customers are advised to check signs at bus stops and plan ahead.

“The community and motorists will continue to be updated about the upcoming changes in the area and are thanked for their patience while work is carried out.”
