New pedestrian crossing on Cleveland Street at Surry Hills
28 September 2018
Safety will be improved for road users and pedestrians at Surry Hills from next month with the installation of a new pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Cleveland, Young and Marlborough streets.
Roads and Maritime Services is installing the crossing and two new red turn arrows at the traffic lights to allow pedestrians to cross safely and to minimise the number of crashes at this busy intersection.
The pedestrian crossing will be on the western side of the intersection across Cleveland Street.
Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions while the work is carried out between Monday 8 October and Monday 29 October, weather permitting.
To minimise disruption, work hours will be between 10pm and 5am from Sunday to Friday.
Two bicycle racks that were previously on Cleveland Street will be installed on Young Street as part of the work.
Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
