Work on new road bridges at Frenchs Forest in full swing
7 February 2019
Work is powering ahead on the Northern Beaches Hospital road upgrade, with two new road bridges taking shape this month.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said this work is being delivered as part of the 1.3 kilometre long underpass on Warringah Road which will provide more capacity for motorists once complete.
“Crews will be on the ground across the next two weekends to pour around 700 cubic metres of concrete to get the new bridge decks at the intersections of Forest Way and Wakehurst Parkway just right,” the spokesperson said.
“These pours will be carried out continuously for around seven hours each weekend to ensure the new road bridges are formed correctly.
“Around 100 truckloads of concrete are expected to be transported to site from a concrete batching plant across the two weekends, which will be quite a sight.”
The spokesperson said once the new bridges are complete, motorists will be able to see the underpass take shape.
“A new road bridge was recently poured at the intersection of Hilmer Street and work is now being carried out to install bridge barriers and screens, lay asphalt as well as install new traffic lights,” the spokesperson said.
“All three road bridges will be open to traffic this year while work continues to excavate the Warringah Road underpass.
“Once all three bridges and the underpass are completed, motorists will enjoy smoother trips along Warringah Road.
“Work on this important road upgrade will continue throughout this year and be complete in 2020, weather permitting.”
Work at the Warringah Road intersection with Forest Way will be carried out from 4pm Saturday 9 to 8am Sunday 10 February, including lanes closures.
Work at the Warringah Road intersections with Hilmer Street and Wakehurst Parkway will be carried out from 4pm Saturday 16 to 8am Sunday 17 February.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place, including intermittent lane closures across the two weekends.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for its ongoing patience while work is carried out.
