Plan ahead for closures along The Northern Road at South Penrith

18 December 2019

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead for changed traffic conditions along The Northern Road at South Penrith, with lane closures in place from early January.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the closure will be in place to continue work on The Northern Road upgrade between Glenmore Park and South Penrith.

"Crews are working hard to deliver this important upgrade which will provide easier, faster and safer travel for motorists in Western Sydney once complete," the spokesperson said.

"To prepare for major work, The Northern Road will be temporarily closed between Maxwell Street and Jamison Road from 9pm Friday 3 to 9am Saturday 4 January.

"The Northern Road will then be reduced to one lane in each direction between Maxwell Street and Jamison Road so crews can start building new lanes.

"To allow work to be carried out safely, the traffic lights at the intersection of The Northern Road and Smith Street will be also temporarily switched off."

The spokesperson said there will also be changes at the intersection of Smith Street, with the eastern side of the intersection temporarily closed.

"Access to the western side of Smith Street will also be restricted to left in and left out only," the spokesperson said.

"Motorists wishing to access Smith Street will be detoured via Maxwell Street, Fragar Road, Colless Street, Derby Street and Bringelly Road."

The spokesperson said the changed traffic conditions will be in place until Friday 24 January, weather permitting.

"Road work signs and traffic controllers will guide road users through the temporary changes and detours while they are in place," the spokesperson said.

"Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow the direction of all signs and traffic control."

"The community and motorists will continue to be updated about the upcoming changes in the area and are thanked for their patience while work is carried out."
