Bushfire clean-up continues on Chifley Road at Lithgow
21 February 2020
Crews will start work next week to remove fire damaged trees alongside Chifley Road at Lithgow.
Transport for NSW Acting Director Western, Craig Matthews said now the bushfires have subsided removing fire damaged trees alongside the road is necessary to avoid further disruptions to the road network.
“Once a tree has been burnt and has lost its foliage, the tree ultimately dies from stress and has the potential to collapse and fall across the road,” Mr Matthews said.
“Specialist arborists have inspected the area surrounding Chifley Road at the bottom of Scenic Hill and will be removing trees from both sides of the road.
“While it is sad to see the trees removed, it is a necessary step to ensure residents, commuters and visitors to the area are not put at risk of harm, or face lengthy delays.”
Motorists are advised there will be changes to traffic conditions for the work to be carried out along a 120 metre section of Chifley Road, 300 metres east of Evelyn Street.
Work will be carried out from Monday 24 February to Friday 28 February, between 7am and 6pm, weather permitting.
Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will also be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, allow extra travel time and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
