Speed zone change on New England Highway at Glen Innes
30 April 2020
Motorists are being reminded of a speed limit change on the New England Highway at Glen Innes.
Transport for NSW Director North Region Anna Zycki said the change simplifies the previous speed zones to ensure the road network is safer for all motorists.
“A review of the speed zones was carried out on a 600 metre section of the New England Highway between Herbert and Grafton streets,” Ms Zycki said.
“The review determined the previous speed zone of 80km/h needed to be reduced to 60km/h, to improve safety at the intersection of the highway and Grafton Street.
“A number of factors were considered during the review, including the crash history and traffic volumes on this stretch of the highway.”
Transport for NSW carried out the review in consultation with Glen Innes Shire Council and NSW Police, and in accordance with the NSW Speed Zoning Guidelines.
The existing speed limit of 80km/h on the New England Highway was reduced to 60km/h, from 20 metres north of Herbert Street to 100 metres north of Grafton Street.
The speed limit of 80km/h was increased to 100km/h from 100 metres north of Grafton Street to 500 metres north of Grafton Street.
New speed limit signage for the New England Highway has now been installed.
Electronic message signs advised motorists of the new speed limits.
