Motorists advised to slow down on Murray Street at Finley
19 May 2020
Motorists can expect changes on Murray Street at Finley this week when a new speed zone will be introduced for the safety of all road users.
Transport for NSW Director South West Lindsay Tanner said the speed zone on Murray Street between Wollamai Street and Headford Street will be reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h, for a length of about 470 metres.
“Transport for NSW carried out a review of speed zones on Murray Street at the request of local business operators concerned about safety,” Mr Tanner said.
“The review identified a high number of pedestrians in the area, visiting local shops and businesses and also difficulties for heavy vehicle operators needing to brake on approach the pedestrian crossing along Murray Street.
“The speed zone review assessed a number of factors, including crash history, road geometry, road usage, adjacent development, traffic mix and traffic volumes, as well as council and community concerns.
“This new speed limit supports Transport for NSW’s commitment to the safety of all road users, including pedestrians, who are some of our more vulnerable road users.”
The new speed limit will take effect from Wednesday 20 May and will add about eight seconds to travel times on this section of road.
Signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changed traffic conditions and there will be minimal disruptions to traffic.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
