Memorial Avenue upgrade drives ahead
7 July 2020
The Hills District community will see shovels hit the ground for major upgrade work on Memorial Avenue in Kellyville later this year, with Transport for NSW confirming the award of the major contract will be announced in the coming weeks.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the upgrade of Memorial Avenue is a crucial project for road users in the region that will help reduce congestion for over 30,000 motorists who use the road every day.
“Transport for NSW started key early work on utility relocation in October last year, and it’s pleasing to see work on the next stage confirmed for later this year,” the spokesperson said.
“Major work will involve upgrading the existing 2.2 kilometre road to a four-lane divided road, with shared pedestrian and cyclist paths to be built on both sides of the road.
“Tenders for the major work have already been issued, with an announcement coming soon, followed by major work starting before the end of the year.
“The upgraded road should open to motorists around three years after the contract is awarded.
“Once complete the upgrade will improve traffic flow, ease congestion, and reduce travel times along Memorial Avenue and nearby roads especially during the morning and afternoon peaks.”
Transport for NSW thanks road users for their patience as utility relocation work continues.
