Local Government plays a crucial role in managing the heavy vehicle network across NSW. This is a multi-faceted task, requiring action on a number of issues including access conditions, safety, compliance and enforcement. The effective management of these factors contribute considerably to State and National productivity and an efficient heavy vehicle road network.
The growing level of road freight is placing continued pressure of State and local roads. In order to meet this rising freight task a number of productivity and policy reforms have been implemented. Programs such as the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) and Performance Based Standards (PBS) are designed to boost productivity while advancing road infrastructure, safety and environmental outcomes.
The prosperous working relationship between Roads and Maritime Services and Local Government remains vital in ensuring an efficient and safe heavy vehicle network.
For ease of navigation, we have split the heavy vehicle website into the following sections:
- Intelligent Access Program (IAP)
- Mass limits for heavy vehicles
- Oversize and/or overmass vehicles and loads
- Performance Based Standards (PBS)
- Rest area locations
- Restricted Access Vehicle (RAV) Guidelines and Maps
- Road Manager Toolkit
- Road Train Modernisation Program
