Navigation Restriction - Tabulam Bridge, Clarence River - New Tabulam Bridge works - Bruxner Highway

Vessel operators are advised that Transport for NSW will be constructing the new Bruxner Highway Bridge over the Clarence River at Tabulam, immediately downstream of the existing Tabulam Bridge. Part of the works includes the removal of the old bridge. The works which commenced in 2017 are now scheduled to be completed by Wednesday 30 September 2020.

For more details on the Tabulam Bridge project please visit Tabulam Bridge.

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, vessel operators are advised that a Special Event Area/Construction Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 around the works on the navigable waters of the Clarence River at the Tabulam Bridge between the above dates.

This Special Event/Construction Zone will extend 50 metres upstream of the existing Tabulam Bridge and 50m downstream of the new Tabulam Bridge.

A navigation channel indicated by port (red) and starboard (green) buoys will be in place for the duration of the works to allow vessels to transit through the area.

Vessel operators are advised that a 4 knot speed restriction applies within the Special Event/Construction Zone.

Vessel operators are to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and pay particular attention to construction work vessels, barges, anchoring cables, lighting & day shapes and any advisory signage.

This navigation restriction and warning remains in place for the duration of the works.

Transport for NSW advises

  1. Persons within the vicinity of the works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
  2. Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation 2016 – clause 11(2)) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00)
