(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)
Macleay River, South West Rocks
SECTOR LIGHT FAULT AT BAR CROSSING ENTRANCE
Monday 11 March 2019 – ongoing
Vessel operators are advised of a mechanical fault within the sector light navigation aid at the Macleay River entrance at South West Rocks.
The sector light is a fixed aid to navigation that displays a light of different colours over designated arcs. The colour of the light provides directional information to aid vessel navigation.
An approach bearing into the Macleay River entrance of 240.5 degrees is advised, indicated by a white light. The light remains visible at day and night and is designed with an effective range of 2.5 nautical miles.
A mechanical fault has been found causing the light to dim for a 1 degree angle within the green light sector. The sector light remains operational, and is effective as an aid to navigation.
Future replacement of the light head is planned.
This navigation warning remains in place until further notice.
Vessel operators are reminded to be extra vigilant when operating in the area. Vessels should log on with Marine Rescue and seek advice before crossing the Macleay River entrance.
