(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)
Hunter River, Morpeth
MORPETH BRIDGE MAINTENANCE WORKS
Monday 30 March 2020 to Thursday 31 December 2020
Vessel operators are advised that Transport for NSW will be undertaking necessary bridge maintenance and repairs to the Morpeth Bridge which spans the Hunter River at Morpeth. The works are scheduled to commence on Monday 30 March 2020 and are scheduled to be completed on Thursday 31 December 2020.
EXCLUSION ZONE (DUE TO CONSTRUCTION)
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, vessel operators are advised that an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Hunter River, at the Morpeth Bridge between the above dates. Closed spans will be indicated by channel blocked markers suspended from the bridge above the closed spans, and yellow buoys on the water.
Markers may be relocated during the period as works progress across the bridge. At least one navigable span will remain open to vessel traffic under the bridge as works progress, to allow vessels to transit the Zone.
NAVIGATION RESTRICTION AND WARNING
Vessels are restricted from transitting through the Zone where works are taking place as indicated by markers. Vessel operators are to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and pay particular attention to construction work vessels, lighting & day shapes and any advisory signage. There will be a 4 knot restriction in place.
This navigation restriction and warning remains in place for the duration of the works.
Transport for NSW advise that in relation to the Zone;
- Persons within the vicinity of the Zone must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
- No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) — Maximum Penalty $1,100.00)
