Navigation Restriction - Manning River, Taree - Martin Bridge maintenance works

(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)

Manning River, Taree
MARTIN BRIDGE MAINTENANCE WORKS
Wednesday 17 June 2020 to Tuesday 30 November 2021

THE WORKS

Vessel operators are advised that Transport for NSW will be undertaking necessary bridge maintenance on the Martin Bridge which spans the Manning River at Taree.  The works are scheduled to commence on 17 June 2020 and are scheduled to be completed by 30 November 2021.

EXCLUSION ZONE (DUE TO CONSTRUCTION)

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, vessel operators are advised that an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Manning River, at the Martin Bridge between the above dates.  Closed spans will be indicated by channel blocked markers and lights suspended from the bridge above the closed spans, and yellow buoys on the water.  There will be a 4 knot restriction in place 30m each side of the bridge where maintenance work is being carried out.

Markers may be relocated during the period as works progress across the bridge. At least one marked navigable span will remain open to vessel traffic under the bridge as works progress, to allow vessels to transit the Zone.

NAVIGATION RESTRICTION AND WARNING

Vessels are restricted from transiting through the Zone where works are taking place as indicated by markers.  Navigation channel height may be restricted by up to 1.8m due to scaffolding under the bridge.  Vessel operators are to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and pay particular attention to construction work vessels, lighting & day shapes and any advisory signage.

This navigation restriction and warning remains in place for the duration of the works.

DIRECTIONS

Transport for NSW advises that in relation to the Zone;

  1. Persons within the vicinity of the Zone must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
  2. No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) — Maximum Penalty $1,100.00)
