Tweed Coast – Offshore Dreamtime Beach, Wommin Bay
ARTIFICIAL REEF INSTALLATION
Friday 28 August to Friday 11 September 2020
Vessel operators are advised that an artificial reef is to be installed approximately 7.5 kilometres south of the Tweed Heads river entrance, and 2.4 kilometres East of Dreamtime Beach at Wommin Bay, at a depth of approximately 25 metres. Installation operations will commence on Friday 28 August and continue until Friday 11 September 2020. (These dates may vary depending on weather.)
All artificial reef modules will be deployed within the reef management area bound by the following coordinates (WGS84)
28° 13.338’ S, 153° 35.322’ E (NW)
28° 13.338’ S, 153° 35.688’ E (NE)
28° 13.554’ S, 153° 35.322’ E (SW)
28° 13.554’ S, 153° 35.688’ E (SE).
Vessel operators are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity of the barge and associated work vessels. This navigation warning remains in place for the duration of the works.
Transport for NSW advises that in relation to the works:
- Persons within the vicinity of the Area must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s 15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
- Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed (no more than 4 knots) from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation 2016 – clause 11(2)) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00)
