Tumut and Yarrangobilly Rivers - Talbingo Reservoir
Tumut and Yarrangobilly Rivers – Talbingo Reservoir
MARINE OPTIC FIBRE CABLE OPERATIONS
Monday 27 April 2020 to Friday 31 July 2020
Transport for NSW advises vessel operators that marine fibre optic cable laying operations will be occurring in the Talbingo Reservoir section of the Tumut and Yarrangobilly Rivers from Monday 27 April 2020 to Friday 31 July 2020.
Vessel operators should exercise caution when operating on the Talbingo Reservoir, and specifically between the localities of the Tumut 3 power station upstream to Lobs Hole (vicinity of Wards Inlet at the junction of Middle Creek and Yarrangobilly River), due to marine operations associated with the Snowy Hydro 2.0 project which involve a barge and support vessels laying fibre optic cable on the river bed between the above dates.
The barge will also be making use of a temporary mooring system, which could result in submerged lines being present in the waters around the barge.
During times of restricted visibility, the barge, support vessels, and other equipment will be marked with lights as required by marine legislation.
Vessel operators are reminded that the operator of a vessel must not cause wash that damages or impacts unreasonably on any dredge or floating plant, and any construction or other works in progress, and to obey all local waters buoyage and/or signage.
Transport for NSW advises:
- Persons within the vicinity of the works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
- Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation 2016 – clause 11(2)) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00)
