Progressive spans closure - Bridge maintenance works

Vessel operators are advised that maintenance works will be conducted on the Ryde (Truss) Bridge across the Parramatta River at Ryde, from Monday 21 November 2016 to December 2019. As a result the navigation through spans will be restricted progressively as works progress from span to span. Spans will be temporarily closed during the erection of scaffolding along the bridge.

During the works, the scaffolding platform will extend to a maximum of 1 metre below the bridge. Closed spans will be marked with the appropriate closed channel signals and buoys. Unauthorised vessels are prohibited from operating within the closed span.


Vessel operators are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and to pay particular attention to the closed spans. This navigation warning remains in place for the duration of the works.


Roads and Maritime advises:

  1. Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation – clause 11) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00)
  2. Persons within the vicinity of the works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
