DEC 2018Clearway proposal not progessing

In December 2018 it was announced that Roads and Maritime Services is not progressing with the current clearways proposal along the Pittwater Road corridor. View the 7 December 2018 media release (PDF, 25.4Kb).

Roads and Maritime is also waiting for Northern Beaches Council to make a decision on their plans to help manage the community's parking needs, to ensure any changes put in place meet community needs and support local business.

Project information

The Barrenjoey, Pittwater and Manly roads corridor between Mona Vale and The Spit was identified in the Sydney Clearways Strategy in 2013 for the investigation of new and extended clearways based on traffic volumes and speeds at that time.

The corridor is 20km long, and is the most direct connection to the Northern Beaches for road users travelling from Sydney’s north to the south, east and the CBD. It also connects to other primary routes into the Northern Beaches that include:

  • A3 Mona Vale Road
  • A38 Warringah Road, and
  • M1 Warringah Freeway.

In August 2018, the NSW Government announced the start of community engagement for proposed new and extended clearways on the Barrenjoey, Pittwater and Manly roads corridor between Mona Vale and The Spit. We started speaking to the community about clearway proposals on sections of the corridor, with a focus around each town centre.

Roads and Maritime commenced engagement with local communities about the following proposals along the corridor:

  • Proposed new and extended clearways and parking changes in Manly Vale on Condamine Street, Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation and Manly Road between Pittwater Road, Brookvale and Medusa Street, The Spit (September 2018)
  • Proposed clearways and parking changes on the Pittwater Road section of the corridor between Fielding Street, Collaroy and Lismore Avenue, near Dee Why Lagoon (October 2018).

We received extensive feedback from residents, businesses, road users, community groups and commuters in response to these proposals.
