More informationSome work on footpaths and side roads will be carried out between 7am and 5pm from Monday to Friday. We expect to complete the work by early April 2020, weather permitted.
No work will be carried out between Tuesday 24 December and Sunday 29 December or on Wednesday 1 January.
To reduce the amount of night work required, we will be carrying out two weeks of day work on the road from Monday 30 December to Friday 10 January, when traffic volumes are low. This work will be carried out between 7am and 3.30pm from Monday to Friday.
Project information
The City of Newcastle will carry out the work on behalf of Roads and Maritime Services. The work will involve:
- rebuilding the road between Sketchley Parade and Russell Road including removal of humps at intersections
- drainage improvements including installing new kerb and gutters
- installing new footpaths on both sides of the road
- minor adjustments to driveway levels to match new road levels.
The work will provide a smoother and quieter journey for motorists travelling on this section of Bridges Road.
There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe. Lane closures will be in place during work hours and a 40km/h speed limit will be in place for the duration of the work. Motorists should allow extra travel time.
On-street parking on Bridges Road in this area will not be available during construction. Access to side streets may be restricted for short periods and signs will be in place to direct motorists.
