Transport for NSW will add an additional northbound lane on Devlin Street from Victoria Road to Blaxland Road to improve travel times, safety and the flow of traffic through the intersection.

To prepare for this work, we need to carry out investigations. Our upcoming work includes survey activities and pot holing the road surface and footpath along Church Street, Church Lane, Gowrie Street and Little Church Street, Ryde. Pot holing involves digging small holes to identify the location of underground utility services.

Project information

The NSW Government has funded this project as part of its $300 million Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel time on Sydney's busiest corridors.

Currently, motorists experience delays at Devlin Street, Blaxland Road and Parkes Street intersection, particularly during peak periods.

To improve this, we are removing the merge under the Victoria Road overpass and creating an additional northbound lane from Victoria Road to Blaxland Road.

Key benefits to the community include:

  • reduced congestion and improved safety on Devlin Street
  • travel time savings for motorists, particularly during peak periods
  • reduced queue lengths and traffic delays due to a better flow of traffic through the intersection
  • reducing the incidence of rear-end crashes.
  • increased pedestrian safety
  • improved overall intersection efficiency.

Roads and Maritime invited feedback on the proposed intersection improvements at Devlin Street, Blaxland Road and Parkes Street, Ryde in March 2018.

After considering all responses, along with the proposal’s aims and design requirements, we have decided to proceed with the proposal, subject to the following change to the original design proposal:

  • the bus priority lane on Devlin Street will not be removed as had been proposed.

We have now prepared a community consultation report (PDF, 1.71Mb) that summarises the feedback we received and our responses.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to consider our proposal and provide feedback.

Roads and Maritime will complete investigation work to inform and plan intersection improvements at Devlin Street and Blaxland Road, Ryde.

We will keep the community and stakeholders informed as the project progresses.
