Updates and announcements

Work on the upgrades will start on Monday 18 March 2019 and is expected to be completed by late 2020. The work will be delivered by Ditchfield Contracting Pty Ltd.

Impacts at Ogilvies Hill and Winery Hill may include delays and disruptions to traffic flow and travel times. Travel time delays may be significant with journeys expected to take up to an additional 15 minutes between Jerrys Plains and Denman during some stages of construction.

For more information about working times and traffic changes please download the March 2019 project notification (PDF, 115Kb).

Project background

The project involves upgrading a two kilometre section of the Golden Highway near Ogilvies Hill and a four kilometre section between Bowmans Crossing and Saddlers Creek, approximately nine kilometres west of Jerrys Plains.

The proposed upgrades are part of a package of work being delivered on the Golden Highway, between Whittingham and Dubbo, to improve safety, traffic efficiency, network reliability and freight access.

The NSW Government is providing $109 million funding, with an additional $24 million funding from the Australian Government, for the package of work on the Golden Highway.

More information on the package of work is available on the Golden Highway Upgrades webpage.

Project features

The improvements include:

  • Building overtaking lanes in both directions to improve safety and traffic flow
  • Rebuilding and realigning the road
  • Widening road shoulders
  • Drainage improvements and providing five metre clear zones along sections of the highway.
