Inner Newcastle Traffic Study
Roads and Maritime Services carried out a study to investigate traffic efficiency along several state road corridors in inner Newcastle, to help determine the priorities for future upgrades of the Newcastle road network.
Roads and Maritime carried out preliminary investigations and identified significant traffic congestion issues at 23 sites in inner Newcastle, along five state road corridors. The traffic study involved investigating these sites, and others identified by the local community, to develop a priority list of future potential projects.
The primary focus of the study is to inform future road network planning in inner Newcastle.
The study investigated traffic issues along state roads within inner Newcastle, however impacts from and on local roads were also considered. Several major roads were included in the study area, as shown in the map above.
The community was invited to comment on the Inner Newcastle Traffic Study in July and August 2014. The feedback and suggestions received have been considered to prioritise future projects and seek funding.
