Project information
Between 1912 and 1969, Jackson Place was used as an informal rubbish tip for disposal of demolition rubble, organic waste (such as garden cuttings) and household waste. Similarly, the Wolli Creek flood plain was used for market garden activities from the 1920s to the 1960s.
Previous studies identified contaminants located in the northern part of the site, towards Jackson Place, resulting in approximately one third of the land requiring remediation. The studies indicated the contaminants are in low concentrations and are unlikely to have caused a risk to users of the site.
It is important to ensure that contamination on the site is managed so it does not pose a future risk to the environment.
Once remediation works are completed, the 1.8-hectares will be transferred to the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
The Development Application (DA) process is being conducted by the City of Canterbury-Bankstown (Council). A copy of the Development Application and accompanying Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is available via the Councils Development Application webpage (Search DA-391-2020).
