Transport for NSW has upgraded the M1 Pacific Motorway between the Tuggerah and Doyalson interchanges to improve traffic flow and safety. The upgrade involved widening the motorway to provide three lanes in each direction and rebuilding the roadway to provide a smoother and more durable surface.
This project was one of three M1 Upgrades providing a better and more reliable journey on one of Australia’s busiest roads.
JUL 2020Changed traffic conditions on Sparks Road at Warnervale
Changed traffic conditions will be in place from Friday 3 July as new traffic lights located at the eastern side of Sparks Road bridge are switched on.More information
The new signals will improve safety and increase capacity at the southbound exit ramp from the M1 towards Warnervale.
To minimise impact to motorists, work to prepare for the change will take place overnight from Thursday 2 July. A 40km/h speed limit will be in place during the night work. Please drive to the conditions, and to follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

The M1 Pacific Motorway is an important link for motorists travelling between Sydney to Brisbane, which is one of the busiest transport routes in Australia.
The 12 kilometre section between Wyong Road, Tuggerah and the Doyalson Link Road is currently two lanes in each direction. It has the most traffic of the remaining four lane sections between Sydney and the end of the motorway at Beresfield. This motorway is used by through traffic and traffic north of Wyong accessing the Central Coast.
The upgrade will cater for the increase in traffic demand from growth in the Central Coast, Hunter and North Coast.
This project is part of the M1 Upgrades, which also includes upgrading the M1 between the Kariong and Somersby interchanges and at the Weakleys Drive and John Renshaw Drive intersection. The M1 Upgrades make up the $391.6 million M1 Productivity Package funded by the Australian and NSW governments to improve traffic flow and safety on the M1.
The upgrade includes:
- widening a 12 kilometre section of the motorway to provide three lanes in each direction between Wyong Road at Tuggerah and the Doyalson Link Road
- rebuilding a nine kilometre section of the motorway between Wyong River and the Doyalson interchange to improve the road surface
- improving road drainage for safety during wet weather
- providing safety and capacity improvements to key motorway interchanges at Warnervale and Doyalson.
Key benefits include:
- increased traffic capacity along the motorway
- better travel times for motorists
- improved road safety
- smoother road surface.
The Environment Protection Licence for the project was transferred to our construction partner, CPB Contractors on 11 May 2017. The Environment Protection Licence has been varied since this time and can be found on the Environment Protection Authority’s public register.
Under the Environment Protection Licence, a project phone line is in place. For any questions or complaints about construction please contact the Tuggerah to Doyalson project team on 1800 841 778 (24 hours, 7 days a week). Please note all calls are answered by CPB Contractors and managed under their complaints and enquiries procedure. All construction complaints are recorded and tracked including the complaint details, complainant contact information, actions taken to resolve the complaint, details of the resolution and response times.
Construction complaints about noise and vibration are investigated within two working hours of when they are received, including reviewing the cause of the complaint and if the noise or vibration can be minimised or avoided. Other construction complaints will be investigated within one working day from when they are received. If not already addressed via follow-up face-to-face conversation, phone or email, a detailed response is provided once the complaint has been investigated. If required, follow-up monitoring will be carried out to ensure complaints have been resolved satisfactorily.
Remaining finishing works will be carried out at night and are expected to be completed by mid-2020, weather permitting.
We will continue to keep stakeholders and the community informed as the project progresses.
