Project information

The upgrade of Mulgoa Road, Jamisontown, from Jeanette Street to Blaikie Road including the M4 Motorway, has been fast-tracked with a $100 million commitment from the Australian and NSW Governments.
Roads and Maritime Services has developed the concept design and the environmental assessment for this proposal.

The key features of the project include:

  • three lanes in each direction
  • upgraded intersections – including  Mulgoa Road and the M4 Motorway  intersection, Mulgoa Road and Wolseley  Street intersection, and Mulgoa Road  and Blaikie Road intersection
  • bus priority lanes at intersections
  • a footpath on the western side and landscaping
  • shared path on the eastern side.

The key benefits to the community include:

  • improving road capacity to cater for population  and employment growth
  • managing congestion and delays along Mulgoa Road during peak periods
  • reducing travel times and transport costs
  • improving road safety for all users
  • improving active transport.

The preferred option for the Mulgoa Road / Castlereagh Road corridor upgrade was placed on display for community comment from Wednesday 19 April to Friday 19 May 2017. We prepared a community consultation report summarising the comments received and our responses (link to report).

Following community consultation, the preferred corridor for the entire Mulgoa Road / Castlereagh Road upgrade was finalised in April 2018.

Roads and Maritime invited the community and stakeholders to provide feedback on the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the Mulgoa Road, Jamisontown upgrade, from Monday 27 August until Friday 21 September 2018. A Submissions Report will be released that responds to all feedback received during the display of the concept design and REF. It will also be used to help develop the detailed design of the project.
