New Grafton bridge community day

Roads and Maritime Services invites you to the new Grafton bridge open day. The community will be able to walk across the new bridge on Sunday 8 December 2019 between 8am and 12pm.

Enjoy a sausage sizzle and other treats, learn about the project and attend the official ceremony.

Project information

Limited parking will be available on-site. Pram and wheelchair access will be available on the day.

The main entry to the bridge site will be via the intersection of Pound and Clarence streets.

 

To help us plan for the day, please register your attendance (including whether you will use the free bus service). Please note, registration is not compulsory to attend the community day but will help us prepare.

A limited number of free buses will travel from 8am to and from the following locations at regular intervals:

Grafton Showground, Grafton
208 Prince Street, Grafton

JJ Lawrence Park, South Grafton
89 Ryan Street, South Grafton

* The final bus bound the bridge site will leave each park and ride location at 11am.

  • Sunday 8 December 2019 between 8am and 12pm
  • Yes, children are welcome at the event and the bridge will be accessible to prams.
  • Yes, pedestrian access will be available on the new bridge.
  • Free bus transfers will be available from park and ride locations at Grafton Showground and JJ Lawrence Fields, South Grafton. Buses will depart from these locations at regular intervals. The final service will leave each location at 11am. Of course people can also park elsewhere and walk to the event, noting there will be road closures in place on the day. Parking for bicycles will be available.
  • Buses will travel to and from the event and following locations at regular intervals:

    JJ Lawrence Fields
    89 Ryan Street, South Grafton

  • To help us plan for the day, please register your attendance and indicate whether you intend to catch one of the free buses to the event.

  • The community will be able to access the bridge for the community day via the intersection of Pound and Clarence streets in Grafton. Pedestrian access will also be available on the southside of the river.
  • Walking across the bridge and back may take anywhere up to one hour.
  • There will be water stations, refreshments and demountable toilet facilities available at the community day.
  • There will be a sausage sizzle, ice cream, coffee and cold drinks available for purchase on the day. People attending on the day are encouraged to bring a water bottle to use the free water stations.
  • Golf carts will be available to transport mobility-impaired people across the bridge. These will leave from set locations either side of the bridge.
  • There will be accessible bus transfers available and access to the bridge is wheelchair accessible. Please contact the team on 1800 918 759 or via graftonbridgecommunity@fultonhogan.com.au to plan your visit.

  • We will keep the community updated if there are any changes as a result of bad weather.
  • Bicycles, skateboards, scooters etc. will not be permitted on the bridge. This does not apply to mobility scooters, which will be permitted. Bicycle parking will be available.
  • Only assistance dogs accompanying their owner are allowed access to the event. Please contact the team on 1800 918 759 or via graftonbridgecommunity@fultonhogan.com.au to plan your visit.

  • Recreational drones will not be allowed to launch from the event area. Refer to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority Drone Flyer website to familiarise yourself with Australia's recreational drone rules.
