Road users and local residents in Bella Vista, Baulkham Hills and surrounding areas were experiencing heavy congestion in the morning and evening peak hours caused by traffic wanting to turn onto the M7 Motorway and Seven Hills Road.

Transport for NSW has completed upgrading this 'pinch point' intersection. Since work was completed, this upgrade is delivering more reliable trips for all road users.

Thank you to the local community for your patience while we completed this intersection upgrade.

We opened the newly widened Old Windsor Road in this area to traffic just before Christmas. We trust you are enjoying an improved experience, including less congestion and faster travel time, on your journeys through this area now.

Whilst we have completed the key work in this upgrade, we will need to come back to the area to finish off landscaping, concreting and line marking work in March due to the recent heavy rain we have experienced lately.

Project information

The NSW Government is funding this project as part of its $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel time on Sydney’s busiest corridors.

Road users travelling between Sydney’s North West and Parramatta are experiencing congestion and long wait times on Old Windsor Road between Seven Hills Road and Norbrik Drive. To ease congestion, improve traffic flow and reduce travel times, we are:

  • widening Old Windsor Road from two to three continuous lanes in each direction to ease congestion for motorists
  • extending the right turn lanes from Old Windsor Road onto Seven Hills Road to improve southbound traffic flow
  • building a new northbound cyclist path connection from Old Windsor Road to the shared path on the Transitway.

The key benefits to the community include:

  • improving traffic flows on Old Windsor Road
  • improving safety for cyclists
  • easing congestion
  • reducing travel times.

We consulted on this project with the community in August and September 2017.

View or download the results of the December 2017 consultation report (PDF, 628Kb).

We will continue updating you on this project as work progresses, including informing you in advance about future work schedules and night work.
