FEB 2019Major work starts

Major work on the upgrade started in late February 2019.

We are working between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and 8am and 1pm on Saturdays. Some out of hours work is required for the safety of motorists and workers and to ensure work is carried out as efficiently as possible.

Dora Street was closed to all through traffic at its intersection with Railway Crescent (eastern end) on 8 April 2019. The closure will be in place for about two years to allow work to continue on the upgrade. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the closure.

Roads users will have to use a detour (PDF, 701Kb) via Dora Street, Cambourn Avenue and Excelsior Street to access Railway Crescent.

Night work will be carried out during September between 6pm and 7am Sunday to Thursday, weather permitting.

Residents and businesses will be directly notified in advance of any out of hours work near their property.

Night work will include:

  • locating and relocating utility services, including commissioning of new services
  • accessing site compounds on Railway Crescent and on the highway near Ourimbah Street
  • materials and equipment deliveries to work sites on the corner of the Pacific Highway and Macdonalds Road and on highway opposite The Ridgeway.

More information is available in the September 2019 project notification (PDF, 289Kb).

Road users are advised there will be a temporary reduction in length of the right turn lane into Railway Crescent from the Pacific Highway and of the right turn lane out of Railway Crescent to the highway from Monday 2 September.

The lanes will be shortened in length for the next two years.

There will also be a minor realignment of the Pacific Highway south of Ourimbah Street near Lisarow Cemetery, while the bus stop on Railway Crescent will be moved 20 metres to the north.

Pedestrian access will be maintained.

The changes are required for the safety of all road users and workers as building work continues on the Pacific Highway duplication.

More information showing these changes can be found in the temporary traffic changes notification (PDF, 190Kb).

Project information

The NSW Government is investing $178 million to upgrade the Pacific Highway between Ourimbah Street and Parsons Road at Lisarow.

The upgrade will improve traffic flow, travel times and safety for around 30,000 motorists using this 1.6 kilometre section of the highway each day.

Following consideration of community feedback in 2016, the Review of Environmental Factors was determined in February 2017.

As a result of our continued planning and development of the project, Roads and Maritime Services has updated the Review of Environmental Factors to include more details in two Addendum Review of Environmental Factors reports.

A contract was awarded to Daracon Contractors in November 2018 to build the upgrade.

Key benefits of the upgrade include:

  • Improved traffic flow and travel times on the Pacific Highway
  • Improved connections to the local road network
  • Improved safety for all road users
  • Improved pedestrian and cycle network.
  • Two lanes in each direction on the Pacific Highway
  • A new bridge over the rail line, replacing the existing narrow bridge near Railway Crescent
  • New traffic lights at the Railway Crescent and Tuggerah Street (formerly Macdonalds Road) intersections with the Pacific Highway
  • Upgrading the existing traffic lights at The Ridgeway
  • Improved pedestrian and cycle paths along and across the highway
  • Improved access to the parking area at Lisarow Railway Station.

Standard work hours will be from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. We will be required to work outside of normal working hours at times, including at night from 7pm to 5am.

The ability to work on the new four-lane bridge over the rail line is limited when scheduled train services are running. During scheduled rail line trackwork shutdowns, we may work continually throughout the day and night to reduce the overall duration of construction.

Major work started in February 2019.

We will continue to keep stakeholders and the community informed as the project progresses.
