MAY 2020Night work and traffic changes in May

Motorists are advised of changed traffic arrangements from next week on Railway Crescent as upgrade work continues on the Pacific Highway duplication between Ourimbah and Lisarow.

Changes will be in place on Railway Crescent from 28 April to allow bridge piling work to be carried out safely.

There will be a contra flow arrangement in place with one lane available at a time between 8am and 4pm on weekdays. If night work is required, the contra flow arrangements will remain in place during work hours.

The road will be reopened to traffic outside of work hours.

The bus stop and pedestrian access on Railway Crescent will be maintained during these arrangements.

The arrangements are required for the safety of all road users and workers as building work continues on the Pacific Highway duplication.

These changes are expected to be in place for up to three weeks.

Night work will be carried out from Tuesday 28 April between 6pm and 7am Sunday to Thursday until the end of May. More information can be found in the May night work notification (PDF, 320Kb).

Night work will include:

  • bridge piling near the intersection of Railway Crescent and the Pacific Highway
  • services relocation near the intersection of the Pacific Highway and The Ridgeway, on Tuggerah Street and Macdonalds Road and in the carpark at Lisarow Station
  • delivery and collection of equipment from work sites on Railway Crescent
  • access to site compounds on Railway Crescent and Macdonalds Road.

Dora Street was closed to all through traffic at its intersection with Railway Crescent (eastern end) on 8 April 2019. The closure will be in place for about two years to allow work to continue on the upgrade. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the closure.

Roads users will have to use a detour (PDF, 701Kb) via Dora Street, Cambourn Avenue and Excelsior Street to access Railway Crescent.

Project information

The NSW Government is investing $178 million to upgrade the Pacific Highway between Ourimbah Street and Parsons Road at Lisarow.

The upgrade will improve traffic flow, travel times and safety for around 30,000 motorists using this 1.6 kilometre section of the highway each day.

Following consideration of community feedback in 2016, the Review of Environmental Factors was determined in February 2017.

As a result of our continued planning and development of the project, Roads and Maritime Services has updated the Review of Environmental Factors to include more details in two Addendum Review of Environmental Factors reports.

A contract was awarded to Daracon Contractors in November 2018 to build the upgrade.

Key benefits of the upgrade include:

  • Improved traffic flow and travel times on the Pacific Highway
  • Improved connections to the local road network
  • Improved safety for all road users
  • Improved pedestrian and cycle network.
  • Two lanes in each direction on the Pacific Highway
  • A new bridge over the rail line, replacing the existing narrow bridge near Railway Crescent
  • New traffic lights at the Railway Crescent and Tuggerah Street (formerly Macdonalds Road) intersections with the Pacific Highway
  • Upgrading the existing traffic lights at The Ridgeway
  • Improved pedestrian and cycle paths along and across the highway
  • Improved access to the parking area at Lisarow Railway Station.

Standard work hours will be from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. We will be required to work outside of normal working hours at times, including at night from 7pm to 5am.

The ability to work on the new four-lane bridge over the rail line is limited when scheduled train services are running. During scheduled rail line trackwork shutdowns, we may work continually throughout the day and night to reduce the overall duration of construction.

Major work started in February 2019.

We will continue to keep stakeholders and the community informed as the project progresses.
