The Rawsonville Bridge was on the list of NSW timber truss bridges to be preserved but after a review of the conservation list of bridges developed in 2012 and community feedback, the bridge will be removed and replaced with a new concrete bridge which will increase load capacity, improve wide vehicle access, improve safety and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

The Rawsonville Bridge replacement demonstrates how the NSW Government is listening to the community, after the majority of feedback during consultation showed community members were in support of building a new bridge rather than closing the old one for at least six months of repair work.

Closing the bridge would have involved a lengthy detour, adding up to 20 minutes to travel time so this is a great outcome for the community.

You can find out more about the Rawsonville Bridge replacement by visiting our projects team at an information session to be held at:

Project information

The Rawsonville Bridge was built in 1916 and is narrow and in poor condition due to age. It doesn’t meet modern design standards and is not suitable for use by modern day heavy vehicles with a Higher Mass Limit (HML) load.

The Rawsonville Bridge is a major crossing of the Macquarie River linking the Mitchell Highway to the Dubbo-Burraway Road. If the bridge is closed for maintenance, customers are faced with an up to 45 kilometre detour to travel from one side of the bridge to the other.
