MAY 2016Location review

The location of the proposed new ferry wharf and interchange at Rhodes is to be reviewed.

Project information

The NSW Government is delivering a new ferry wharf and interchange at Rhodes as part of the Transport Access Program. Community consultation on the proposed wharf and interchange at Rhodes was carried out in April, May, September and October 2015.

No decision has been made on where the new wharf will be located. Roads and Maritime Services will engage with the community and stakeholders as further options are considered.

Roads and Maritime and Transport for NSW will look at all options including the location between the John Whitton Rail Bridge and Ryde Bridge, next to Rhodes East.

The review will also allow Roads and Maritime to understand revitalisation plans for Rhodes East. This may create an opportunity to integrate the wharf into the Rhodes East plans, and remove the navigation issues raised.

There are a number of projects in the area that have been completed or are nearing completion which will provide further transport for residents of Rhodes.

The Homebush Bay Bridge is due to be completed in the coming months. Once operational the bridge will provide a new bus, cycle and pedestrian link between Rhodes and Wentworth Point, reducing the travel distance between the two suburbs to only a few hundred metres.

Once the Homebush Bay Bridge is complete, the current 526 bus route to Sydney Olympic Park Wharf will be extended to link with Rhodes Train Station and Rhodes Shopping Centre. This route is anticipated to start operating in June 2016.

A recent upgrade of the Sydney Olympic Park Wharf has provided an improved wharf facility with better customer amenity and dual berthing capacity. Commuters can also access Meadowbank wharf via the John Whitton Bridge. This wharf is also being upgraded and will be completed in June 2016.
