South Batemans Bay Link Road project

Transport for NSW is planning for a safe and efficient connection between the South Batemans Bay Link Road and the Princes Highway. The proposal includes a new roundabout on the Princes Highway and new two lane road connecting to the existing South Batemans Bay Link Road at Glenella Road. The project will take pressure off Beach Road, relieve congestion in the Batemans Bay CBD and support future growth.

OCT 2019Preferred option

Transport for NSW is progressing plans for the project and has carried out investigations and assessments to identify a preferred option.

The project includes a new section of road and a new intersection with the Princes Highway. Four intersection options were investigated and assessed to identify the preferred option.

These options were comparatively assessed against:

  • Road safety standards
  • Traffic efficiency
  • Environmental impacts
  • Property and community needs
  • Construction and design benefits (constructability)
  • Delivery cost and budget.

To provide a safe and efficient intersection, we have identified a roundabout as the preferred option.

The community update (PDF, 2.77Mb) provides an overview of the preferred option.

More detailed information on the preferred option can be found in the South Batemans Bay Link Road preferred option report (PDF, 2.2Mb).

AUG 2019

AUG 2019Geotechnical investigations are underway

Geotechnical investigations are underway. The data from these investigations will be used alongside land and utility surveys and traffic modelling to develop design options for a safe and efficient connection for the Link Road and Princes Highway.

Project information

Following an assessment process, a preferred option for the project was determined and put on display for community feedback between in late 2019.

To provide a safe and efficient intersection, we have identified a roundabout as the preferred option.

The community update (PDF, 2.77Mb) provides an overview of the preferred option.

Key benefits of the preferred option include:

  • Provide a safe and efficient connection between the Princes Highway and south Batemans Bay villages for residents, visitors and freight
  • Help ease congestion in the Batemans Bay central business district
  • Reduce severity of crashes on Princes Highway between Cranbrook Road and Lattas Point Road.

More detailed information on the preferred option can be found in the South Batemans Bay Link Road preferred option report (PDF, 2.2Mb).

Early planning and investigation work for the Link Road project is in progress.

Survey, geotechnical and preliminary environmental investigation work is being carried out and is expected to continue until early 2020.

The NSW Government has announced $30 million in funding to connect the Link Road and the Princes Highway, south of Batemans Bay.

In 2014, the NSW Government invested $10 million for Eurobodalla Shire Council to build the Link Road to manage traffic growth in the area.

The Link Road currently stops a few hundred meters short of the Princes Highway, this project will connect it by extending the road and building a new intersection.

The NSW Government investment will ensure that Batemans Bay receives the necessary infrastructure to support the region’s growth.
