Pinch point upgrade at Hoxton Park Road and the Hume Highway, Liverpool
The NSW Government has committed over $825 million to pinch point projects which ease congestion, reduce traffic delays and improve travel times on Sydney's major roads.
Updates and announcements
Roads and Maritime Services is upgrading the intersection of Hoxton Park Road and the Hume Highway in Liverpool as part of our Pinch Point Program to reduce congestion, and improve traffic flow and safety. Work is continuing which includes adjusting traffic signals, upgrading stormwater drainage, demolishing existing footpaths and asphalting.

Our work may be noisy at times but we will do everything we can to minimise its impact, including completing the noisier activities by 11pm.
The NSW Government is funding this project as part of its $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel time on Sydney’s busiest corridors.
Motorists traveling through Liverpool often experience congestion and long wait times squeezing through the busy, central intersection at the Hume Highway and Hoxton Park Road. The single right turn lane has queues of motorists waiting to return home or to connect to the M7 which then block other road users continuing south along the Highway or transferring to the M5 Motorway.
Roads and Maritime is upgrading this ‘pinch point’ by widening the Hume Highway to creating a second dedicated right turn lane onto Hoxton Park Road. This will benefit road users by:
- improving westbound traffic low onto Hoxton Park Road towards the M7 and Liverpool’s outer suburbs
- improving southbound traffic flow continuing on Hume Highway towards the M5 and Sydney’s South West
- easing congestion and lowering travel times for all road users, especially during peak AM and PM times.
The key benefits to the community include:
- Improving traffic flow through Liverpool through the intersection by separating westbound motorists
- Lowering travel times to connect to the M7 Motorway and M5 Motorway
- Easing congestion for Liverpudlians needing to access Hoxton Park Road or continue along the Hume Highway.
In November and December 2017 Roads and Maritime Services invited feedback on proposed intersection improvements at Hoxton Park Road and Hume Highway, Liverpool.
After considering all responses, we have decided to proceed with the traffic improvements as proposed.
What happens next?
We will be updating you on this project as work progresses, including informing you in advance about future work schedules and night work.
