If you live in an area where Motorcycle Rider Training Scheme courses are available (a declared area), you must complete all of the required courses with a training provider.
This page provides a list of all training providers to help you find one near you, or call us on 13 22 13.
Booking a training course
You need to book directly with your chosen training course provider. You’ll need to pay the course fee when you book, so if you book online or by phone you’ll need a credit card.
You should also let the training provider know if you want to learn to ride a motor scooter.
Important: You must have a current NSW driver licence, NSW Photocard or Roads and Maritime Customer Number before you can book a course. If you don’t have at least one of these, you will need to go to a service centre in person and apply for a Customer Number. You will need to provide full proof of your identity to apply.
Changing or cancelling a booking
If you need to change or cancel a booking, contact the training provider directly. Changes are subject to the terms and conditions of your booking, as are refunds of course fees.
Training and testing on a three-wheeled scooter
Three wheeled scooters with a narrow front wheel track can be used for rider training.
The current Motorcycle Licence Training and Testing Scheme does not currently meet the training and testing criteria for other three-wheeled motorcycles.
If you want to use a three-wheeled scooter (eg. Piaggio 3) for your pre-learner rider training course, you will need to bring your own scooter for training. Contact the rider training provider by phone to discuss at the time of booking your pre-learner training.
- Be able to transport the registered motorcycle to your booked training course location. The motorcycle must be transported by a licensed rider or trailered to the rider training location.
- Provide the following to the Rider Training provider:
- motorcycle registration plate number
- a current copy of the Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy for the motorcycle
Rider training and testing booking procedures remain unchanged for declared and undeclared areas.
Waiver of insurance
The Rider Training Provider will require you to complete a waiver of insurance document. This document will be supplied on the day of training and testing.
Approved three-wheeled motorcycles
Some three-wheeled motorcycles are not accepted for Rider Learner Training and Testing (Pre-Learner and Pre-Provisional). To check your vehicle is eligible, see list of approved learner motorcycles.
