Northern NSW
Name changes
Some important routes have been renamed as motorways, as published in the Government Gazette on 1 February 2013.
There is one route in northern NSW that has been renamed.
- The Pacific Highway between the Queensland border and north of Byron Bay is now part of the M1 Pacific Motorway.

Hunter and Central Coast
Name changes
Some important routes have been renamed as motorways, as published in the Government Gazette on 1 February 2013.
There is one route in the Hunter and Central Coast region that has been renamed.
- The Sydney to Newcastle Freeway (commonly known as the 'F3') is now part of the M1 Pacific Motorway.
Number changes

Other road changes - Hunter Expressway
The Hunter Expressway (M15) was recently opened by the Acting Prime Minister, the Honourable Warren Truss MP, and the NSW Minister for Roads and Ports, the Honourable Duncan Gay. The opening of the expressway will be accompanied by other road changes to simplify wayfinding in the Hunter. These are:
- The Hunter Expressway will be signposted as the M15
- Newcastle Road will be signposted as the A15 from the M15 to the Newcastle CBD
- The current route number for New England Highway will also be amended when the Hunter Expressway opens.

Sydney
Name changes
Some important routes have been renamed as motorways, as published in the Government Gazette on 1 February 2013.
There are three routes in the Sydney region that have been renamed.
- The Sydney to Newcastle Freeway (commonly known as the 'F3') is now part of the M1 Pacific Motorway.
- The Hume Highway is now named the M31 Hume Motorway, from the M5 at Prestons to Berrima, after which it reverts to the Hume Highway. The route is alpha numeric route marked as M31.
- The M4 is the M4 Western Motorway between Lapstone and Concord.

Southern NSW and ACT
Name changes
Some important routes have been renamed as motorways, as published in the Government Gazette on 1 February 2013.
There are two routes in southern NSW that have been renamed.
- The Southern Freeway and Mount Ousley Road from Waterfall to Albion Park Rail are now part of the M1 Princes Motorway.
- The Hume Highway is now named the M31 Hume Motorway, from the M5 to Berrima, after which it reverts to the Hume Highway. The route is alpha numeric route marked as M31.
